Caramel and apples go together magically, but you don’t have to avoid the combination just because caramel is basically death by simple sugars. This raw recipe for caramel uses dates as the foundation, and it mimics the caramel flavor perfectly. Dipped into the raw caramel, the apples are then coated with nuts (walnuts or pecans) for a crunchy finish. A healthy snack is minutes away…
An apple a day keeps the glow ablaze:
Apples: stimulate the production of saliva, reducing decay and bacteria levels; helps to avoid Alzheimer’s by lowering the effects of aging on the brain; protect against Parkinson’s; are rich in flavonoids, thus reducing the risk of cancer; decrease the risk of diabetes; lower cholesterol on account of its soluble fiber content; slow the build up of plaque in arteries; prevent gallstones; overcomes diarrhea and constipation; avoid hemorrhoids; control weight; detoxify the liver; boost the immune system with its antioxidant quercetin; and prevent cataracts.
This caramel sauce is adapted from Detoxinista.
